ISESCO Director General participates at 3rd International Conference on Tourism and Culture in Istanbul, and meets the UNWTO Secretary-General 

The Director General of the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO), Dr Abdulaziz Othman Altwaijri, takes part at the 3rd International Conference on Tourism and Culture, held by the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), in Istanbul, Republic of Turkey, on 3-5 December 2018. The Conference brings together a number of ministers of tourism and culture of the Member States of UNWTO and UNESCO, UNWTO Secretary-General, UNESCO Deputy Director-General, and many experts as well as personalities interested in tourism and cultural affairs.

The agenda of the Conference features the organization of working sessions to explore ways on to promote cooperation among the authorities official concerned in the sectors of tourism and culture; exchange experiences and models on effective practices for aligning policies with implementation mechanisms to hasten transition into sustainable development of cultural tourism, and ways to support governments around the globe to promote partnership between the public and private sectors as well as ways to strengthen triangular cooperation among tourism, culture and society so as to achieve Sustainable Development Goals.

On this occasion, Dr Altwaijri met UNWTO Secretary-General, Mr Zurab Pololikashvili, and together they discussed ways to promote cooperation relations in the fields of common interest.

For the record, ISESCO prepared the Strategy for the Development of Cultural Tourism in the Islamic World, adopted by the Fifth Islamic Conference of Culture Ministers, in Baku, Republic of Azerbaijan, 2015. ISESCO developed this Strategy as part of the attention it gives to the sector of tourism in the Islamic world and beyond as this sector has become a full-fledged industry, and a factor of economic and human development. As part of the activation of the orientations and action programmes of this strategy, ISESCO held an important number of activities for the benefit of Member States.
