Meeting of Secretaries General of Member States’ National Commissions in Shiraz kicks off

The Meeting of the Secretaries General of Member States’ National Commissions, being held by the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO), in partnership with the Iranian National Commission for ISESCO and cooperation with the Islamic World Science Citation Center (ISC), on 11-12 November 2018, kicked off today in Shiraz, Islamic Republic of Iran.

The meeting was opened by Dr Seyyed Mohammad Bathaei, Chairman of the Iranian National Commission for ISESCO, while Mr Mohamed Ghemari, Director of the Secretariat of the Executive Council, General Conference and Specialized Ministerial Conferences, delivered ISESCO’s address on this occasion.

The opening ceremony was attended by senior Iranian personalities, MPs, and several ambassadors of participating states accredited to Tehran. Likewise, the opening ceremony also featured the exhibition of the postal stamp issued by the Iranian Government on the occasion.

The meeting brings together the Secretaries General of National Commissions of the following Member States: Jordan, Afghanistan, Benin, Burkina Faso, Tajikistan, Uganda, Pakistan, Brunei Darussalam, Bangladesh, Chad, Togo, Tunisia, Djibouti, Senegal, Suriname, Iraq, Sultanate of Oman, Gabon, Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Palestine, Union of the Comoros, Qatar, Cote d’Ivoire, Kuwait, Libya, Mali, Maldives, Malaysia, Niger, and Nigeria.

The meeting aims to promote cooperation relations and partnership among National Commissions so as to share benefits, learn from successful experiences, support innovative scientific research, suggest executive procedures and measures likely to enhance the quality of scientific publications in Member States, explore the best ways to enhance the performance of scientific research and better meet the current needs of knowledge-based economies, and formulate practical steps to encourage scientific research, technology and innovation including the enhancement of research performance in Member States and promotion of the Islamic Scientific Network.
