ISESCO to hold in Singapore the 2nd Forum of the Heads of Islamic Cultural Centers and Associations outside the Islamic World

The Director General of the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO), Dr Abdulaziz Othman Altwaijri, will take part in the 2nd Forum of the Heads of Islamic Cultural Centers and Associations outside the Islamic World, which ISESCO will held in Singapore, on 13-14 October 2017, in cooperation with the Jamiyah Singapore, on the theme: “The Role of Islamic NGOs in Promoting a Culture of Peace: Challenges and Prospects.”

On this occasion, ISESCO Director General will give an address during the forum’s opening ceremony, in the presence of Mr K. Shanmugam, Minister for Home Affairs and Minister for Law of Singapore.

The Forum, which coincides with the 85th anniversary of the Jamiyah Singapore, will see the participation of members of the Supreme Council for Education, Science and Culture for Muslims outside the Islamic World; the coordinators of the Strategy for Islamic Cultural Action outside the World in Europe, Asia and Latin America and the Caribbean; and heads of several Islamic cultural centers and associations outside the Islamic world from the following countries: Argentina, the UK, Albania, Canada, France, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Russia, Spain, Switzerland, Australia, Philippines, Brunei Darussalam, Sri Lanka and Singapore. The Forum will also be attended by a number of intellectuals and political figures, media outlets and religious leaders in Singapore.

The Forum aims to strengthen the relations and channels of communication, cooperation, coordination and networking among heads of Islamic cultural centers and associations outside the Islamic world; correct the image of Islam and Muslims and highlight the Islamic civilizational mission; promote dialogue and a culture of peace in the working programmes and activities of the Islamic cultural centers; address the causes of islamophobia, violence and xenophobia; and build bridges of trust and cooperation.

Over 7 working sessions, the participants in this Forum will discuss the following topics: “the Role of the Supreme Council for Education, Science and Culture for Muslims outside the Islamic World in promoting a culture of peace”; “the Role of Muslim NGOs in Promoting Peace: Country Initiatives (Canada, France and India)”; “the Role of Muslim NGOs in Promoting Peace: Country Initiatives (Indonesia, Malaysia and Russia)”; “the Role of Muslim NGOs in Promoting Peace: Country Initiatives (Spain, Switzerland and the UK)”; “the Role of Muslim NGOs in Promoting Peace: Country Initiatives (Australia, Philippines and Brunei Darussalam)”; “the Role of Muslim NGOs in Promoting Peace: Country Initiatives (Singapore, Sri Lanka and Pakistan)”; and “Role of Muslim Youth Ambassadors of Peace International”.

In the same vein, a roundtable will be held to discuss the topic of “Towards Better Inter-Faith Relations”, which will see the participation of ISESCO Director General, the Secretary General of the Muslim World League and the representatives of the Buddhist, Christian and Hindu faiths in Singapore, along with the President of the Inter-religious Organization of Singapore.

It is worth noting that the first Forum of the Heads of Islamic Cultural Centers and Associations outside the Islamic World was held at ISESCO headquarters in Rabat, in 2010.
