Coordination Meeting of the Secretaries General of the Member States’ National Commissions kicks off at ISESCO headquarters in Rabat
The Coordination Meeting of the Secretaries General of the Member States’ National Commissions for Education, Science and Culture kicked off today morning, at ISESCO headquarters in Rabat. This meeting is being held by the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO), in cooperation with the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO) and the Arab Bureau of Education for the Gulf States (ABEGS) on 10-11 July 2017.
During the opening session of the meeting, addresses were delivered by Dr Abdulaziz Othman Altwaijri, ISESCO Director General; Mr Nasser Bourita, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in the Kingdom of Morocco, Chairman of the Moroccan National Commission for Education, Science and Culture, read out on his behalf by Mrs Nadia El Hnot, Director of the Moroccan Royal Academy of Diplomacy; Dr Ali bin Abdul Khaliq Al-Karni, ABEGS Director General; Dr Abdelfattah Lahjomri, Director of the Arabization Coordination Bureau (BCA), representative of ALECSO; and Mrs Irina Bokova, UNESCO Director General, read out on her behalf by Dr Salah Khaled, Director of UNESCO Bureau in Rabat.
Afterwards, an exhibition, held at ISESCO hall was inaugurated. It displayed publications by ISESCO, ALECSO and ABEGS in the fields of education, science, technology, culture and communication.
The opening session was attended by a number of Member States’ Ambassadors in Rabat, Secretaries of ISESCO, ALECSO, ABEGS’s Member States National Commissions, ISESCO Directorates’ supervisors, Heads of Divisions and Programme Specialists, as well as representatives of national and international media outlets.
The Meeting’s agenda includes three working sessions to discuss UNESCO Draft Programme for 2018-2021, develop a unified vision about the central issues in UNESCO’s 39th General Conference Agenda, draw up joint mechanisms and projects between the Arab and European National Commissions to promote dialogue with the Other and address the phenomena of zealotry and extremism, especially among young people; explore ways to promote cooperation and coordination between ISESCO, ALECSO and ABEGS, and the National Commissions, and devise mechanisms to benefit from their projects and programmes.
