ISESCO Director General receives UNESCO Assistant Director General for Natural Sciences
The Director General of the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO), Dr Abdulaziz Othman Altwaijri, today in his office, received Ms. Flavia Schlegel, Assistant Director General for Natural Sciences of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
During this meeting, the two sides discussed ways to invigorate the cooperation agreement signed by the Directors General of the two organizations in Marrakesh in 2013, which covers human and institutional capacity building, and environmental education for conservation and sustainability of natural resources.
On this occasion, ISESCO and UNESCO signed a cooperation programme on biosphere reserves as climate change observatories and laboratories of sustainable development in the Arab and African regions.
The programme is aimed as a framework for the preparations to hold the 2nd Arab-African MAB and IHP meeting to define the implementation mechanisms of the imitative on biosphere reserves as an observatory of climate change and a sustainable development laboratory in the Arab and African region, work together to officially launch a joint ISECSO-UNESCO initiative on this matter at COP23, and make efforts to implement it, in cooperation with various partners.
The programme was co-signed by Dr Ahmed Saïd Ould Bah, ISESCO Director of External Affairs and Cooperation and Mr Salah Khaled, Director of UNESCO’s Regional Bureau in Rabat.
