ISESCO Director General to participate in 4th World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue, Baku
The Director General of the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO), Dr Abdulaziz Othman Altwaijri, will participate in the 4th World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue, to be held in Baku, Azerbaijan, on 4-6 May 2017, under the patronage of Mr Ilham Aliyev, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
On this occasion, ISESCO Director General will deliver an address at the Forum themed “Advancing Intercultural Dialogue: New Avenues for Human Security, Peace and Sustainable Development”.
The Forum will be organized in cooperation between the Azerbaijani government, ISESCO, UNESCO, the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC), the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the Council of Europe (COE) and its affiliated North-South Centre.
The Forum will be attended by various heads of state and government, ministers, international organizations’ officials, international personalities, youth organizations’ representatives, international media and directors of the private sector institutions.
Following the opening ceremony, participants will discuss, in a plenary session, the topic “Promoting Dialogue and Building Bridges as a Tool to Preventing Violent Extremism”. Later, working sessions will be dedicated to examine the following topics: “sharing responsibilities for human security: building sustainable and inclusive societies”; “building synergies for intercultural dialogue between economic and financial institutions & development agencies towards Agenda 2030: Challenges and opportunities”; and “the cultural dimensions of countering extremism in cyberspace: the radicalization of youth leading to violence”.
Sessions will also cover these topics : “promoting a welcoming culture towards migrants and refugees in municipal authorities”, “the role of parliaments in building trust & understanding in cultures & communities”, “harnessing the transformative power of tourism in building a better future: a shared responsibility”, “building inclusive societies and peaceful coexistence: an ASEAN perspective” and “generation what? How one trans-media campaign can inspire dialogue around the world?” In addition, participants will join a top-level meeting on “Countering Violent Extremism through Girls’ Education”.
