ISESCO to hold Eighth Consultative Council for Implementation of Science, Technology and Innovation Strategy in Islamic Countries

The Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) will hold the Eighth Meeting of the Consultative Council for Implementation of the Strategy for Science, Technology and Innovation in Islamic Countries, on 11-12 October 2016, in its headquarters in Rabat. The meeting’s opening session will be chaired by Dr Amina Al-Hajri, ISESCO Deputy Director General, who will deliver an address on this occasion. Also in attendance will be Mr Irfan Shaukat, Director General of Science and Technology at the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and Mr Abdelhak Mouradi, Director of Science at the Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Executive Training of the Kingdom of Morocco.

Will participate in the meeting the Council members representing the following Member States: the Kingdom of Morocco, the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the Republic of Djibouti, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Republic of Indonesia, the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, the Republic of Uganda, the Republic of Cote d’Ivoire and the Republic of Mali.

The meeting will examine and adopt the following reports and documents: the Report of the Director General on Efforts of ISESCO in the Field of Higher Education, Scientific Research, Innovation and Technology since the 7th Session of the Islamic Conference of Ministers of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Report on Establishment of OIC Collaborative Effort in Preparation of Curriculum for Commercialization and Entrepreneurship, and the Progress Report on the Establishment of the Islamic Network of Women Scientists (INWS). The Council will also discuss a project of an Integrated Platform for Promoting Quality-Accreditation and Exchanges-Cooperation in the Universities of ISESCO Member States and the project of Islamic World Observatory of Science and Technology.

The reports and projects adopted by the Council will be submitted to the 8th Islamic Conference of Ministers of Higher Education and Scientific Research which will be held by ISESCO, in cooperation with the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research of the Republic of Mali, in Bamako, in November 2016.

The Consultative Council for Implementation of the Strategy for Science, Technology and Innovation in Islamic Countries was established by the Islamic Conference of Ministers of Higher Education and Scientific Research; it is the highest consultative body for science in the Islamic World, and is in charge of following up the implementation of the Strategy for Science, Technology and Innovation in Islamic Countries to ensure the use of scientific knowledge for socio-economic development goals.

The Consultative Council made a number of important decisions and adopted many vital projects in its previous sessions as part of the implementation of the Strategy for Science, Technology and Innovation in Islamic Countries. These projects, programmes and recommendations contributed to strengthening the capacities of Member States in science, technology and innovation. They also led to the establishment of a number of institutions such as ISESCO Center for Promotion of Scientific Research (ICPSR), the Islamic Body on Ethics of Science and Technology (IBEST) and the Islamic Citation Center (ISC). In addition, many strategies were adopted including the Strategy for Development of Biotechnology in the Islamic World, the Strategy for Promotion of Nanotechnology in the Islamic World, and the amended version of the Strategy for Science, Technology and Innovation in the Islamic World.
