ISESCO to take part in workshop on Syrian refugees, Ankara

The Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) is taking part in a workshop themed “Syrian refugees: prospects and challenges”, to be held in Ankara, Republic of Turkey, on 25-26 February 2016.

The workshop has for objective to build an interactive forum for refugee-hosting countries and relevant regional and international institutions; develop a shared action plan to best cope with the consequences of this crisis; share knowledge and experience on refugee issues; exchange views on ways to develop specific activities and programmes; and examine response initiatives offered by the countries concerned and partner institutions.

Discussion panels will address the following topics: sheltering and housing; health; education; labor force participation (employment); civil and human rights; and social integration and cohesion.

Panelists will consist of delegates of Syrian refugee-hosting countries, representatives of regional and international UN and OIC agencies, humanitarian and relief non-governmental organizations, and educational institutions.

Dr Muhammad Ahsanullah Helal, officer in charge of cooperation with Arab and Islamic organizations and of special programmes at the Directorate of External Relations and Cooperation, will represent ISESCO in this event. He will give a paper discussing educational challenges for Syrian refugee children.
