ISESCO condemns museum shelling by allied Houthi-Saleh militias, Taiz

The Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) condemned in the strongest terms the shelling of the General Organisation of Antiquities, Museums and Manuscripts of Yemen, in Taiz, at the hands of Houthi and ousted Ali Saleh’s militias, which set precious antiquities and rare manuscripts on fire.

This abject crime, which caused the loss of an important cultural part of the history of Yemen, amounts to a blatant act of moral decay and a wanton disregard for a treasure trove of Arab Muslim lore, ISESCO deplored.

The statement went on, “UNESCO and relevant international organizations ought to condemn this crime and join efforts to safeguard Yemen’s cultural heritage from Houthi militias and pro-Saleh forces and allies.”
