Dr. AlMalik is the advisor and General Director of International Affairs at the Ministry of Education (MOE) as well as advisor to the Minister for Health Affairs in Saudi Arabia. He is also the Secretary for the Saudi National Committee on Education, Science and Culture.

Prior to joining the Ministry of Education, he headed the knowledge-based industries sector at the Saudi Arabia General Investment Authority (SAGIA). During his term at SAGIA, he led the development of their knowledge-based industry strategy and was subsequently able to attract significant new investment to the Kingdom. He also held the position of Deputy Executive Director of medical services for the central region in health affairs at the National Guard for nine years. He spearheaded several innovations for resource utilization and cost containment. He is a well-known expert in healthcare management and strategic planning. In addition, he is an adjunct assistant professor at King Saud University for Health Sciences and Al Faisal University. He has also been actively involved in numerous charity events for social initiatives in the Kingdom.

As General Director for the General Department for International Affairs and Partnerships, AlMalik developed and continues to lead several international collaborations, including opening new channels for the government’s scholarship program that has placed more than 160,000 Saudi scholars worldwide and achieved twinning programs with several international universities. Dr. AlMalik has orchestrated several scientific and educational agreements between the Saudi Ministry of Education and other international ministries as well as many agreements and contracts between Saudi universities and leading international universities.

Dr. AlMalik’s contribution as one of the four individuals to develop the concept paper for King Abdullah University for Science and Technology (KAUST) was one of the many influential roles he has had in the modernization of Saudi higher education. He has served as a consultant to KAUST and as an advisor for King Saud and Princess Nora bint Abdulrahman universities. He is involved in developing the National Innovation Ecosystem at the King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST) and establishing international advisory boards for several local universities.

During the past ten years, Dr. AlMalik has been responsible for the International Exhibition and Conference on Higher Education (IECHE), chairing the Scientific Committee that designs and plans the event. The forum has brought keynote speakers and presenters from leading higher education institutions such as Harvard, Cambridge, Tokyo, Sorbonne, MIT, and Yale to Saudi Arabia and provided extensive opportunities for interaction with the leadership of the Saudi academic community.

Dr. AlMalik is currently the Team Leader of the Saudi G20 education working group, that headed tasks related to preparation for the G20 meetings held in Argentina in December 2018. He will take a leading role in the G20 planned for Saudi Arabia 2020.

Dr. AlMalik has led multiple initiatives towards the improvement of the education environment in the Kingdom including assuming the chairmanship of the Organizing Committee of the new International Teachers Forum launched in August 2018. He also led the Saudi delegation at 32 annual international book fairs.

Dr. AlMalik balances a busy role in public administration with continued clinical work as a consultant in allergy and clinical immunology. He has certification from the Arab Board of Pediatrics, American Board of Pediatrics and American Board of Allergy and Clinical Immunology. He also qualified as a certified physician executive and obtained his diplomate in healthcare management from the American College of Physician Executives. He holds a master’s degree from the Health Policy and Management Program at Harvard University.

Dr. AlMalik currently is a board member of the Saudi Red Crescent Society. He was the team leader of the medical mission following the earthquake in Bam, Iran in 2003. He has been a consultant in health management to the World Health Organization and a consultant for Joint Commission International (JCI) where he contributed to developing international hospital standards. He also has consulted for the Hospital Cooperation of America (HCA), Consolidated Analysis Centers, Inc. (CACI), and Index International. He developed a successful course titled “Cost Control and Quality Improvement Strategies for Healthcare Executives” which was awarded 12 credit hours by the American Academy for Continuous Medical Education.

Dr. AlMalik has authored several books and contributed to numerous publications, including the recently published literary compendium of poems and quotes. He has been invited as speaker and resource person in several international forums highlighting the areas of healthcare, education, and investments.

He is married and has 5 children.
