ISESCO Goodwill Ambassadors Programme

In 2004, the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) launched the Programme of “ISESCO Ambassadors for Dialogue among Cultures and Civilizations”. The Executive Council of ISESCO, at its twenty-sixth, twenty-seventh and twenty-ninth sessions (2005, 2006 and 2008 respectively), approved the appointment of a number of international VIPs and eminent world-class leaders as ISESCO Ambassadors for Dialogue among Cultures and Civilizations. A ceremony was organized for the accreditation of these ambassadors who received their credentials and medals on formal occasions, mostly as part of the Islamic Conference of Culture Ministers that ISESCO organizes on a regular basis.

In addition to the moral considerations and qualitative standards adopted in selecting these ambassadors, ISESCO also took into account the Member States’ geographical distribution, and expanded the selection scope to include Muslim communities outside the Member States, with the appointment of a number of Islamic cultural action leaders in Europe, America and the Indian subcontinent. These ambassadors have played a major role in promoting ISESCO, its objectives and its vision of intercultural dialogue and alliance of civilizations, through specific activities under this Programme, or within the framework of the activities or events they participate in, in other capacities and by virtue of other positions. ISESCO Director General held several working sessions with these ambassadors at the Headquarters and elsewhere, and oversaw the organization of coordination meetings with them, which were attended by most of them and which resulted in initiatives and commitments favoring enhanced cultural dialogue and developed coordination and follow-up mechanisms.

In a bid to give this Programme a more comprehensive dimension and unify its general institutional framework, the Executive Council, on the occasion of its 37th session (2016) decided to change its name as “ISESCO Goodwill Ambassadors Programme“, in such a way as to enable the Organization to choose Goodwill Ambassadors in all its areas of competence, and to involve these ambassadors in serving its priority issues. In this connection, the Council accredited other prominent international personalities. The list of ISESCO Goodwill Ambassadors is accordingly as follows:
