Culture and Communication Directorate

It is in charge of the following:
To find means to preserve and raise awareness about and the Islamic cultural identity ;
To follow up and study the cultural problems confronting the Islamic World and find solutions to them;
To carry out specific research work on the Islamic cultural identity, its values, specificities, forms of ex press ion in the various cultural environments as well as the dangers it faces due to the new communication means;
To devise suitable strategies and policies to fend off cultural invasion and threats to the Islamic culture and identity.
To develop cultural relationships among the Islamic countries and communities inside and outside the Islamic world;
To support cultural dialogue among the countries of the Islamic world, on the one hand, and between them and other cultures, on the other;

It is in charge of the following:
To list, study and take care of the civilizational and cultural heritage of the Member States;
To identify the means likely to protect and maintain civilizational heritage;
To sustain the efforts being made by Member States to preserve and promote their cultural heritage;
To publicize the Islamic cultural and civilizational heritage;
To firmly establish the foundations for cultural exchange and the principles and mechanisms of dialogue among civilizations, and promote the aspects of cultural diversity;
To highlight and protect the essential features of cultural diversity in Member States;
To highlight the Islamic perspective on cultural diversity.

It is in charge of the following:
To identify and publicize the various aspects of creativity in Islamic plastic arts, music, literature, poetry and drama in order to highlight the Islamic Ummah's contribution to the world heritage ;
To devise and implement a policy to protect copyright and Islamic intellectual property;
To carry out studies on problems hindering cultural development (cultural industries) in the Member States;
To support, develop and protect intellectual, literary and artistic works.

It undertakes the following tasks:
To disseminate awareness about women, youth and child issues in the Islamic world from an Islamic perspective;
To promote the situation of women and youth in Islamic societies and foster their role in the process of sustainable development.
To step up and develop cooperation among civil society institutions active in the field of care for women, children and youth in the Islamic world;
To develop plans and strategies likely to highlight the status of these categories in Islamic societies and engage them in the process of development.

It is entrusted with the following:
To identify the ways to develop information and communication infrastructure and ensure their rational utilization in order to promote exchange of expertise among Member States in the areas of communication and culture ;
To contribute to the dissemination of the culture of communication and the exchange of information in Member States;
To develop programmes and action plans which are in line with the latest developments in the field of information and communication;
To support the efforts of Member States towards the development of professional and technical capacities of staff working in mass media;
To coordinate action with the Planning, Information and Documentation Centre in the technical aspects of information and communication programmes.
