The Executive Council of the Federation of the Universities of the Islamic World (FUIW) held its 21st Session at Qatar University headquarters, in Doha, capital of the State of Qatar, on 6-7 November 2016.
The Session was opened by Dr Abdulaziz Othman Altwaijri, ex-officio FUIW Secretary General and ISESCO Director General; Dr Suliman bin Abdallah bin Hamoud Aba-Al Khail, Chairman of the Federation’s Executive Council and President of its 6th General Conference, Rector of Imam Muhammad Ibn Saud Islamic University, and Dr Hassan Rashid Al-Derham, President of Qatar University.
The Council examined two reports of the Federation’s Secretary General on the General Secretariat’s activities between the 20th and 21st Sessions and on the financial situation of the year 2015, as well as the amended version of the Action Plan and Budget for 2016-2018.
Other items on the Council’s agenda included the Project of Performance Measurement Mechanism for the Universities of the Islamic World and its Implementation Road Map, Project of Integrated Programme for Strengthening Exchange and Cooperation among Member Universities and Project of Islamic World Observatory of Science, Technology and Innovation.
The Council considered the Draft Amendment to Internal Regulation of the FUIW, the Draft Amendment of the FIUW logo and the FUIW membership applications submitted by universities and higher institutes in Islamic Countries.
In addition, the Council adopted the Draft Agenda of the 7th Session of the Federation’s General Conference and decided the venue and date for the 22nd Session of the Federation’s Executive Council. It is worth mentioning that the ISESCO-affiliated FUIW was established in 1987, is a body with 304 universities and higher institutes. The 20th Session of the Federation’s Executive Council was held in Riyadh, capital of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, in December 2015.
