7.2.1.3 Electroporation
The DNA can be introduced to the cells by the application of high voltage to a mixture of DNA
and cells in suspension. The DNA enters the cells through holes formed in the cellular
membrane during the electrical pulse. Best
results have been obtained from rapidly dividing cells. This technique is not efficient for
mammalian cells, since these cells do not survive the high voltage nature of this procedure.
