Under the high patronage of President BéjiCaïdEssebsi of Tunisia,  Kick-off of the First ISESCO Conference of Education Ministers

Under the high patronage of His Excellency MrBéjiCaidEssebsi, President of the Republic of Tunisia, the First ISESCO Conference of Education Ministers, held by ISESCO in cooperation with the Tunisian Ministry of Education, today morning kicked off in the Tunisian capital Tunis, under theme “Towards boosting and activating joint Islamic educational action”.

After the welcome address bythe Tunisian Minister of Education, DrNéjiJalloul, the participantsattendedtheaddress of the Conference’s patron, the President of the Republic, MrBéjiCaïdEssebsi.

Then addresses followed by MrIyadMadan, OIC Secretary General; DrAbulfazGarayev, Minister of Culture and Tourism of Azerbaijan, and President of ISESCO 12thGeneral Conference; and DrAbdulaziz Othman Altwaijri, ISESCO Director General.

At the close of the session, ISESCO Director General offered the Gold Medal of the Conference to President Essebsi.

The opening session was attended byseveral members of the Tunisian government, ministers of education of OIC Member States, ambassadors accredited to Tunis, representatives of the relevant international and regional organizations;political and academic figures and representatives of the local, Islamic and international media.

The conference will discuss the Report of the Director General on ISESCO’s Educational Action for Member States and Muslim Communities outside the Islamic World, the draft amended Strategy for the Promotion of Education in the Islamic World, and the draft Tunis Declaration on Invigorating Youth’s Educational Roles in Entrenching the Values of Tolerance and Coexistence. The heads of Member States’ delegations and participating organizations will also give statements on their efforts to develop education.

A ministerial roundtable on “Strategic approaches to developing education and invigorating its role in fostering development and coexistence” will also be held on this occasion.

The Conference will also adopt the project on establishment of the Consultative Council for the Promotion of Education in the Islamic World and elect its members.

At the closing session, the Conference will set the venue and date for the second session.
